Divorce

A very famous divorce attorney once said, "Divorce is the screwing you get for the screwing you didn't get." My advice is to be very careful. Think it over, plan it out. I would seek out a competent attorney who specializes in family law, and have him help you plan out an itinerary. Otherwise, you'll never be able to shed your shrew and keep your skin.

Everyone commingles their personal and business life, and of course there is always a sympathetic judge that will agree with your wife, that she should be paid to continue to enjoy the lifestyle she shared with you. This is costly no matter how it works out, and the whole situation will remains acrimonious, even if it gets settled. If you are a man of means, and you enter the marriage without a pre-nuptial agreement, but worse yet, on a verbal agreement, remember what the great Movie Producer Louis B. Mayor once said, "A verbal agreement is not worth the paper it is printed on."

There are some that say the lawyers fan the flames, which seems natural. They may stir things up, which keeps the pot boiling, assuring continually increasing legal fees. Choose your attorney carefully, if what they say does not make sense, get another lawyer. For you first timers out there looking to get married, remember, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." There is a lot of truth to that. A wise man plans every facet of his life, and must assume that his marriage could end and that unless he makes advanced provisions, he will be left alone and penniless. There is no amicability in these things. If you have significant holdings, a pre-nuptial agreement makes sense. Of course, this will aggravate your bride. I would say that protecting yourself is a prudent thing to do. Divorce is as natural as death. Whatever pleasant times you have spent together, the lawyers will wipe out in a few short weeks. The lawyers will whip your wife into a frenzy, and she will be after your balls, especially if you leave her for a younger woman. Lord have mercy. Be prepared for hell. If ever a clever, experienced lawyer is needed, now is the time. Many of these pre-nuptial agreements can be set aside on the most minimal grounds, so be sure to get a lawyer who knows what they are doing. Also, be sure to have a lawyer read the agreement to your wife, to be sure that she understands its terms. This can become very traumatic. Recently a dear friend of mine worth 10 million found himself wandering the streets of Beverly Hills penniless because he did not prepare himself. Don't let this happen to you.

I can't go into anymore of this in writing, because I wouldn't want to shout all of my tactics out in cyber space, but feel free to call me and I will be more than happy to give you personal advice.

Let me leave you with this thought: After the divorce, then what? Remember the old Irish saying, "The devil you know may be better than the one you haven't met yet".
